Les Malconsorts is an exceptional Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru. We are lucky enough to own 1.75 ha (4.3 acres) of this jewel, which is located close to legendary vineyards (less than 400 meters from Romanee-Conti and less than 600 meters from Richebourg!).
The name "Malconsorts" suggests that this land must once have been at the origin of disputes between "bad consorts" (bad partners), from the Latin word CONSORS meaning "associate, partner". These litigants would have had a common interest in a case. The prefix "Mal-" would indicate that they conducted themselves inappropriately over land that they owned jointly.

TASTING

The nose is fine and complex with delicate primary aromas enhanced by a subtle touch of oak. Soft, fruity notes end on a spicy finish. After a few minutes, subtle notes of peppermint and cedar develop.
On the palate, all the crispiness of Pinot Noir with very pleasing, smooth, mouth-filling tannic texture.

Vinous: 96 Points

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru seems to have been born to embarrass my rather tepid reaction to this wine from barrel. Wow! This has me smitten. It offers a very floral, seductive bouquet with pressed violet petals liberally scattered over the black cherry and wild strawberry fruit, and just a hint of vanilla in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. This is very cohesive, harmonious and silky-smooth in texture, with a light touch of blood orange and brown spices that impart complexity on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points

Wine Spectator: 94 Points

A lithe, tense version, whose taut profile is woven with cherry, strawberry and spice flavors. Firms up on the lingering finish, where the saturated fruit suggests fine potential for the future.

Decanter: 93 Points

Ripe, opulent, beguiling red fruit nose. Rich and suave palate, plump and rounded. There's no flab here, instead showing depth and precision. Excellent fruit soars through the mid-palate and there's ample balancing acidity. The tannins are very supple and well integrated.
